waiting for the storm
by Fanny Chrétien, 52 minutes
Photographer and passionate about weather-forecasting, Xavier Delorme turned it into his occupation, he is a professional storm chaser. Appointed by Météorage, a branch of MétéoFrance to capture and photograph lightening, he is always seeking for the best point of view to position his equipment, travelling for millions of kilometres every year following the movement of the storm cells.
This documentary questions scientists, whose ongoing research work is the key to unveiling the hidden face of the storm. It's just under the storm clouds, between the tropopause and the mesopause, that luminous phenomena lasting between 1 millisecond and 2 seconds, are still waiting for a scientific explanation. Amongst these new phenomena we can observe elves, jets and dancings sprites..
